MCSC(J) 54/2025 COMPARATIVE STUDY RESEARCH VISITS – AUSTRALIA, JAPAN & INDONESIA

Putrajaya, 13 – 24 Apr 25. As part of the National Defence University of Malaysia (NDUM) programme (PSD 5114: Strategic Studies and Security Affairs in the Asian Region (SSSAAR)), the Malaysian Command and Staff Course (Joint) Serial 54/2025 recently concluded its Comparative Study Research (CSR) visits from 13–24 April 2025. The CSR component, themed “Strategic Alliances and Security Partnerships in the Asia-Pacific Region: A Growing United States (US) Influence,” included visits to Australia (13–18 Apr), Japan (14–18 Apr), and Indonesia (21–24 Apr).

Delegations were led by Brig Gen Zamsari bin Abu Hasan (Japan & Indonesia) and Brig Gen Tan Lai Hock RMAF (Australia). Course Participants engaged with academic institutions, think tanks, military bodies, and governmental agencies, receiving valuable briefings on the evolving geopolitical landscape of the Asia-Pacific. Beyond the strategic discussions, participants also immersed themselves in the local cultures and took the opportunity to explore and collect souvenirs.

The CSR visits provided critical insights into the US’s expanding role in the region and deepened understanding of its implications on ASEAN. Course Participants will now consolidate their findings into comprehensive presentations and reports for academic and professional evaluation.
