Another milestone was achieved at the Malaysian Armed Forces Staff College (MAFSC) as Course Participants (CP) of Cohort 54/2025 conducted the Course of Action (COA) Analysis and Wargaming phase under Ex DALAUD BERSATU. The wargame serves as a critical analytical step in the Joint Military Appreciation Process (JMAP), designed to test the validity and feasibility of each COA. Through the wargaming process, CP was divided into eight Joint Operations Planning Groups (JOPG), identified potential Decision Points (DP), anticipated threat reactions and refined their plans to achieve greater operational synchronisation and decision advantage.
During this phase, CP rigorously examined the strengths and vulnerabilities of their proposed COA through a structured wargaming process. Each JOPG identified potential advantages, risks and Critical Decision Points (CDP) while analysing how friendly and adversary actions could interact across the land, maritime, air and information domains. This exercise enabled CP to visualise the battlespace, test their concepts and refine their plans to ensure operational coherence, synchronisation and feasibility before presenting their recommendations to the commander.
𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐠 𝐉𝐞𝐧 𝐙𝐚𝐦𝐬𝐚𝐫𝐢 𝐛𝐢𝐧 𝐀𝐛𝐮 𝐇𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐧, Commandant of MAFSC, 𝐊𝐨𝐥 𝐒𝐮𝐤𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐛𝐢𝐧 𝐌𝐨𝐡𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐝 𝐆𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐢, Chief Directing Staff and 𝐊𝐨𝐥 𝐈𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐤 𝐛𝐢𝐧 𝐔𝐣𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐑𝐌𝐀𝐅, Head of Training Development, were among the senior officers who observed the wargame, together with representatives from the RMN Warfare and Doctrine Centre (PUSPED), the RMAF Air Warfare Centre (AWC) and lecturers from the National Defence University of Malaysia (NDUM). Their professional insights ensured that the wargaming process remained doctrinally sound and reflective of real-world joint operations. JOPG MALFOR 3 was selected for the wargame presentation. The presentation provided valuable insights into the application of wargaming as a decision-support tool for commanders in assessing the relative merits of each COA.
Congratulations to all CP and Directing Staff for their professionalism, analytical rigour and teamwork in mastering this essential step of operational planning. The wargaming activity truly embodies the spirit of critical thinking and joint integration required of future commanders of the Malaysian Armed Forces.
